Celebrating the Success of The LBW Trust’s Supported Students
Despite the significant challenges facing Sri Lanka, the students supported by The LBW Trust have achieved remarkable success.
Candle Aid recently conducted a survey of students in Sri Lanka who completed their undergraduate studies in 2023, and the results are impressive. Out of 45 students, 90% were contacted, and their achievements highlight the impact of the support provided by The LBW Trust.
Four highlights from the Candle Aid report
- Outstanding Academic Achievement
One student in Sri Lanka was awarded a Gold Medal at the convocation for the best performance, securing the highest GPA and topping their batch. Another student achieved a first-class degree—an honor shared by only two students in their batch. Additionally, one student completed her degree with a second class upper, received the highest credit (A+) for her dissertation, and was selected as the best student in her major, Hindi Language. She has also been invited to present at the 13th Annual Research Session (ARS) under the theme “Brace the Knowledge: Expanding Horizons: Unfolding the Future.”
- Medical and Legal Pursuits
Among the 12 medical students in Sri Lanka, nine are currently engaged in internships, paving the way to becoming qualified doctors. One dental student aspires to specialize in orthodontics through further studies, while a law student is interning as a junior lawyer and plans to be sworn in as a fully qualified lawyer in a year’s time.
- Aspirations Beyond Academia
A talented student educated in English aims to become a certified translator. Despite being offered a lucrative position at an E-commerce facility, she declined due to travel constraints and is now conducting English classes for Grade 11 students. She also plans to pursue a course in the Chinese Language to enhance her translation skills.
- Career Development
A total of 27 students in Sri Lanka are either interning, employed, or self-employed, earning incomes. Additionally, some have pursued diplomas and other relevant courses to enhance their skills, while others have expressed interest in migrating abroad to broaden their horizons.
All the students contacted expressed their heartfelt gratitude to The LBW Trust and Candle Aid Lanka for the opportunity to secure their graduate qualifications, which have paved the way for their chosen careers.
Their success is a testament to the impact of the support they received, and we are proud to celebrate their achievements in Sri Lanka.
