About SS4LS
Sport Skills for Life Skills (SSFLS) operates as an independent NGO within the University of Western Cape in Johannesburg.
The SSFLS is a development-focused commitment where entry into the program is contingent on students being members of politically and economically disadvantaged communities.
The program’s philosophy is that success connected with sport can be a pathway to advancement for these communities.
By giving opportunities to the students to excel in a field open to them, the program aims to help build a profile for their communities in South Africa, with the hope of provoking change and fostering integration of their home communities.
The LBW Trust and Sports Skills 4 Life Skills
Our commitment to Sport Skills for Life Skills (“SSFLS”) involves sponsoring all academic expenses for around 7 to 10 students each year.
The students, selected based on economic disadvantage, come from marginalized communities in South Africa or Zimbabwe.
To qualify for SSFLS, students must participate in the UWC sports program, which has traditionally centered around cricket and was initially open to male students only but has recently expanded to include women and women’s sports.
SSFLS conducts research and background checks, providing detailed CVs and references for the Trust’s approval.
Unlike our other partners, sport is central to the SSFLS model. Students are either promising cricketers or show potential in contributing to sport administration for the UWC and affiliated cricket clubs, including roles in physiotherapy, management, and accounting
