About Yuva Parivartan
Yuva Parivartan (YP) is the flagship initiative of the Kherwadi Social Welfare Association (KSWA), a non-profit organisation founded in 1928.
Launched in 1998 Yuva Parivartan has, over the past 24 years, empowered over 1.25 million underprivileged youth and women by enhancing their employability through specialised courses.
These courses, ranging from 15 to 90 days, are meticulously designed to be short, effective and practical, offering flexible timing and hands-on training.
Tailored to equip students with the skills needed to secure stable livelihoods, Yuva Parivartan provides ongoing support through a robust network of field counselors, community leaders, trainers and local livelihood providers, all augmented by technology.
The LBW Trust and Yuva Parivartan’s Livelihood Training Program
The LBW Trust has been supporting Yuva Parivartan’s Livelihood Development Centres since 2012.
The centres aims to enhance the socio-economic status of underprivileged youth in Aurangabad and Bengaluru through training delivered via the Livelihood Development Centres (LDC) model.
The LDCs serve as regional hubs and territorial headquarters, strategically located in slums or disadvantaged areas. These brick-and-mortar centres offer short-term livelihood-oriented courses, ranging from 120 to 400 hours, targeting youth in urban and peri-urban areas. They primarily attract students within a 7 to 10-kilometre radius.
For those living beyond this radius, Spoke Networks are established to organize skilling programs within a 50 to 100-kilometre range of the headquarters. These centres are designed to meet the community’s specific skilling needs, aligning with the local livelihood opportunities. They cater to youth who are unable to travel to the main hubs or centres. Each unit typically operates in one locality for three to six months before relocating to the next. Both the hub and spoke models are equipped with the necessary infrastructure and tools to effectively run the programs.
Initially, there was debate within LBW about whether school drop-outs could be considered as part of tertiary education and if the ‘short course’ model aligned with our criteria.
However, LBW was impressed by the professionalism of KSWA and the significant number of students they were able to reach. Yuva Parivartan typically, though not exclusively, serves students who have completed secondary education but struggle to secure legitimate employment without further training. As a result, LBW committed to including vocational training as a key component of our approach.
