The Education Committee manages relationships with education partners, including an annual reporting process that ensures that funding is being used efficiently and achieving transformative outcomes for the target communities.
The LBW Trust’s fundraising efforts support Australian country libraries and tertiary and vocational education initiatives in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, South Africa and for Afghan refugee communities, including in Indonesia.
We support projects on the basis that they can break entrenched cycles of poverty, transformational leaders and model repeatable innovation.
We prioritise contributions to gender justice and require partners to show an evolution toward sustainability by, for example, having graduates contribute to the funding and operation of the programs.
We ensure that our partners demonstrate exceptional quality of governance, characterised by responsiveness, detail, accuracy and candour.
We collaborate closely with our educational partners to ensure program success, requiring each to present impactful initiatives that advance The LBW Trust’s vision of learning for a better world.
Our Current Education Projects
CandleAid Lanka
We support CandleAid’s Education Sponsorship Programme, which provides the financial assistance necessary to allow students from impoverished regions to attend university courses and they have qualified support.
Cisarua Learning
Cisarua Learning Centre was founded in 2013 by refugees in indefinite limbo in Indonesia. The program has become institutionalised with the training of student teachers, a model that is being repeated in other refugee communities.
Heartland
Pat Price, an Australian teacher, established a primary and secondary college, Heartland College Nepal based on an Australian education approach. LBW has supported Heartland to build and accredit a tertiary wing, which continues to grow and offer new programs and scholarship opportunities.
Country Libraries
In Australia, we fundraise to support country libraries, transforming them into hubs of opportunity for communities lacking access to educational resources.
SS4LS
South Africa-based Sports Skills for Life Skills provides sports scholarships for outstanding sportsmen and women and interns in sports-related programs to attend the University of Western Cape in Johannesburg.
Prerana
Prerana is an education charity based in Karnataka which selects students from the poorest communities for tertiary education scholarships and provides a hub for their educational and employment skills training. LBW has supported Prerana to expand its coverage to rural areas around Bengaluru.
VECT
VECT is located in Bhubaneswar Odisha, the second poorest state in India. Its mission is to support bright and needy students, aiming to bring about a transformational change in the quality of life for underprivileged families and communities.
YUVA
Yuva Parivartan operates across India to give a ‘second chance’ to deprived youth who have dropped out of education through vocational training and life skills, enabling them to earn a decent living and self-respect.
