The LBW Trust (Learning for a Better World) believes education is the pathway to a better future.
Nestled in the small city of Colac in Victoria, Australia, the Colac Library garden stands as a testament to community spirit and collaboration.
In 2023, with support from Friends of Library Australia, National Backyard Cricket, and The LBW Trust, the garden underwent a remarkable transformation.
The revitalisation was made possible by a $1500 National Backyard Cricket Grant, which fueled various initiatives, including partnerships with local businesses like Shalimar Nursery and Skills Connection Jiffy Services. The community was actively involved in the garden’s rejuvenation, fostering a strong sense of ownership and connection.
Programming efforts, such as the Seed Library programs, engaged the public with hands-on gardening demonstrations, promoting food security and community engagement. A highlight was the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden/Seed Library Event, where children learned about gardening and healthy eating.
To ensure the sustainability of these efforts, the garden acquired essential tools and resources, including a multipurpose table, paving the way for continued success.
The Colac Library garden is more than just a green space; it’s a vibrant community hub, nurturing both plants and relationships in the heart of Colac.
