The LBW Trust is honoured to partner with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) to support UTS academics in delivering teacher training programs for volunteer educators in Afghan Refugee Learning Centres in West Java, Indonesia. These volunteers, many of whom are refugees themselves, will be trained to teach refugee children while their families endure the lengthy resettlement process.
The funding secured will ensure the consistent and strategic delivery of teacher training twice a year throughout 2020, with the hope of continuing this support over the next two years. This sustained funding will facilitate the ongoing development of essential knowledge and skills among the volunteer teachers, while also incorporating specialised areas such as adolescent development, mental health, and health education.
By employing a train-the-trainer model, these trained educators will be able to share their newly acquired knowledge and skills with all teachers in their respective schools.
Through collaboration with four learning centres in the Cisarua region of West Java, the project is set to impact approximately 700 refugee children and 60 volunteer teachers.
